Joan Abernethy

Joan Abernethy is an artist in the same way Daedalus describes the vocation in James Joyce’s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man: “I will try to express myself in some mode of life or art as freely as I can and as wholly as I can, using for my defence the only arms I allow myself to use - silence, exile, and cunning”. Abernethy taught art history and studio (briefly) at Western University (when it was still UWO) and was a member of the Dundas Valley School of Fine Art where she worked in photography, metal sculpture, oils, acrylics and water colour before moving to Kawartha Lakes to continue her subversive works of art in free multi life media.
