Miriam Newton
Miriam is a painter based in Kawartha Lakes. Since retiring from her marketing and publishing company, Miriam has focused on watercolour and oil painting, taking inspiration from the dynamic colours and gentle moods of the local area. Miriam uses abstract realism to explore atmosphere colour and depth, producing portraits, land-, sea- and lake- scapes along with memories of time spent in Nova Scotia. As well as flowers and wildflowers, she weaves in a fun element to portraits that evoke a smile and depicts abandoned old buildings that would tell a story if they could talk.
Originally using watercolour "I love the way the colours blend," Miriam now uses mostly oil with acrylic underpainting. Miriam has created 2 murals, one on a garage wall beside her house and the other on the wall of a church in Liverpool, Nova Scotia.
