Jury’s Choice Award For Highest Achievement - Kristina Flindall

Vulnerable, Blue Rocks Nova Scotia by Kristina Flindall

I traveled to Nova Scotia in May 2019 to visit my sister. We took a drive to Blue Rocks where I used her phone to take the photo because mine was back in our airbnb. I started the painting later that year by telling myself that if I could draw it then I could paint it. There would be long stretches when I would work on other small paintings or not paint at all. It gives me great joy to have this piece finished and I am thankful for the award of Highest Achievement!
It is titled 'Vulnerable' because the shack sits on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean and we do not know if it survived after Hurricane Fiona. I believe that many Maritimers feel this way as well. It also speaks to all of us and the implications we face from climate change.

About The Artist - Kristina Flindall

In early 2017, I went to a paint night and enjoyed the feeling so much that I decided to equip myself for painting as a hobby. Acrylic suits me fine because it is fast drying and is easy to clean. I work by building many, many layers. I paint in a way to show how I see and feel so I tend to title my pieces after emotions.
