Sydney Martin
Sydney Martin is a visual artist based in Kawartha Lakes, Ontario. Her artwork explores and combines the mediums of acrylic painting, collage, photography, mixed media and jewellery making. By referencing personal photography and inspiration from noticing beauty in the world around her, Sydney centres her work in themes of nature, flowers, architecture, light/ shadows and reflections. “In my art practice I tend to follow the process of capturing my surroundings (photography), rearranging the composition (collage), and then simplifying the images through shape and colour (painting).“ One of her latest projects includes combining miniature acrylic paintings and jewellery pendants into interchangeable wearable pieces of art. This process alters the idea of artwork being made for the wall and transforms it into a form that interacts with the wearers unique style and daily life.
