Artist Statement:
My work in this exhibition is driven by the desire to explore a wide range of mediums to explore themes of the effects of being perceived, predation, and power. I have always been fascinated by these three things, and experimenting with how I depict these concepts in both medium and execution has been a large personal endeavour.
I utilize unreal, somewhat abstracted creatures and people in the bulk of my work to make it feel both more distant from our reality, and to make my work something that anyone could connect to their own worries or struggles. My strengths lie in my usage of shape, value, and texture to create distinctive, surreal imagery alongside versatility in medium.
This eclectic body of work allows me to display that predation, power, and the effects of being perceived can manifest in countless different ways throughout life, and that the manifestations of them cannot so easily be put into cut and dry boxes that can readily explain their dynamics.
