Authenticity Featured Artist - Reanne Dostie
Artist Statement:
My work in this exhibition was driven by the inspiration to explore my own emotions and the human experience from my perspective. I’ve been drawn to art making because I’m amazed by the ability for art to communicate feelings with clarity.
I focus on using a combination of personal and layered symbolism through the use of imagery, colours, or nature to create my pieces. I use multiple mediums to explore my emotions, and I make my art interactive for viewers to do more than just look at my art because I think that is how my work can be truly experienced.
I deliberately make my art large and interactive to make my experiences physically real. A lot of my artwork feels vulnerable, which is how it feels to express struggle. I use my experiences to not only understand my queer identity and my ever changing life as a teen, but to also reach out to others that experience difficulties of their own.
